love, in excess.

when I die

femmesandfamily:

I want everyone in fake eyelashes at my funeral.

I want my loved ones to clean out Sephora and wear every color on their faces.

I want giant ballgowns.

I want glitter all over my headstone and my family.

I want my grave to be pink plastic with rose and unicorn felt cut outs.

I want someone far away to see my funeral and think; A queen must be throwing a party.

while the *spirit* of this is awesome and yay! and all that good stuff, it is important to recognize that the “gay” identity is a recent (and very western) historical concept. while these two men may very well have had an intimate and perhaps sexual relationship, we don’t know if they would have identified as “gay” as we understand it today…that’s a significant distinction to keep in mind.

Look at the sky: that is for you. Look at each person’s face as you pass on the street: those faces are for you. And the street itself, and the ground under the street, and the ball of fire underneath the ground: all these things are for you. They are as much for you as they are for other people. Remember this when you wake up in the morning and think you have nothing.

Affection is only one ingredient of love. To truly love we must learn to mix various ingredients—care, affection, recognition, respect, commitment, and trust, as well as honest and open communication. […]

Most of us learn to think of love as a feeling. When we feel deeply drawn to someone, we cathect with them; that is, we invest feelings or emotion in them. That process of investment wherein a loved one becomes important to us is called “cathexis.” In his book* [M. Scott] Peck rightly emphasizes that most of us “confuse cathecting with loving.” We all know how often individuals feeling connected to someone through the process of cathecting insist that they love the other person even if they are hurting or neglecting them. Since their feeling is that of cathexis, they insist what they feel is love.

When we understand love as the will to nurture our own and another’s spiritual growth, it becomes clear that we cannot claim to love if we are hurtful and abusive. Love and abuse can not coexist. Abuse and neglect are, by definition, the opposite of nurturance and care.

Remembering Ugandan Gay Rights Activist David Kato
On the 26th of January, a crowd of around 100 LGBTQ rights activists and other supporters gathered in Uganda to pay tribute to a man who dedicated his life to the pursuit of equality for all - the late David Kato.
“We are here to celebrate and thank God for our beloved friend and human rights activist David Kato,” said former Anglican LGBTQ rights campaigner Christopher Senyonjo.
Former South African president Thabo Mbeki, fellow Ugandan gay rights activist Frank Mugisha and Ugandan feminist and lawyer Sylvia Tamale also payed tribute to the extraordinary life of Mr. Kato.
A year ago, prominent Ugandan gay rights activist and SMUG (Sexual Minorities Uganda) advocacy officer David Kato was beaten to death with a hammer in his home by Enoch Nsubuga who claimed that Kato had made unwanted sexual advances toward him.
However, shortly before this gruesome murder, a local Ugandan newspaper had published anti-homosexual propaganda exposing over 100 people suspected to be ‘homos’, and demanded that they be ‘hanged’.
Last year, a Ugandan court sentenced Nsubuga to 30 years in jail for the death of David Kato.
